About this Item
Blue Ribbon Books, Garden City, New York, 1943. Hard Cover. Book Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. No stated edition, no printing history, but likely first edition and very early printing (publication date was January 21, 1942; "1943" is very prominently printed on copyright page). 7-3/4" tall, 263 numbered pages; lightly pebbled one-piece maroon binding, gilt lettering on spine only, Marine logo blind-stamped in center of front board; green and white map end pages (Guadalcanal, Tulagi & Florida Islands on front; Solomon Islands and New Guinea on rear); fore edge is not trimmed. Book has been read but is still in very good condition after 80 years: it is square, hinges tight, corners not bumped, no dings on edges, boards very slightly bowed, heel of spine very lightly bumped, head of spine creased with 1/2" tear in binding; spine not damaged or cracked. The interior is pristine: it is clean and unmarked; no page corners folded or damaged; pages are tight and clean with no writing, stains, or marks of any sort; no staining or discoloration; hinges are tight and undamaged; no distortion of the book from reading or improper shelving. Jacket is in good condition: 1-3/8" x 1/2" chip at top of spine does not affect author's name; small chip at heel of spine; 1-1/4" closed tear at top fore edge corner of front panel; 1" tear at base of front fold with related folds on lower fore edge corner of front panel (see photo); rear panel has 1-1/2" closed tear at top of rear fold. Spine is mildly darkened as are both folds. Reverse side of jacket has ads for other books. Jacket is now in mylar cover. Condition of book and jacket consistent with being gently read. No other discernible or objectionable faults on book or jacket such as marks or writing within, stains, tears, chips, or other damage that would diminish its appearance. No remainder mark, no inscriptions, not price clipped, not a book club edition, not a former library book. Seller Inventory # BMR-2023-10-7-1
