Endpapers show slight offsetting. INSCRIBED in black ink on front free endpaper: " For H. S.:-- Herbert Freeden-- London, 31st December, 1948" otherwise, INTERIOR NEAR PRISTINE: clean, tight. Some minor dog-earing of lower right corner pp. Approx 5" by 7 1/2," 170 pp. This is a novel based on Kristallnacht ("Night of Broken Glass") written by the author and journalist who in the 1930s wrote the standard work on the Jewish Kulturbund in Germany, and also Jewish Theatre under the Swastika, as well as The Jewish Press in the Third Reich, a still in-print study of the 65 newspapers and magazines published by the 53 publishing houses with a specific German-Jewish readership in mind, publications whiich appeared until the end of 1938 and provide insight into the situation of the German Jews under the Nazi regime. In 1946 Freeden was editor for the Journal of the Association of Jewish Refugees until he left for Israel in 1950. This is an extremely RARE & uncommon book, especially so in a SIGNED copy.
