This is a 1946 printing of the 1920 First Edition with the tales selected and illustrated by Elenore Abbott. The book is bound in black cloth with an Abbott plate inlaid on the front cover. Title and illustrator in gilt on the spine. Plate on front cover is scratched and worn. Corners and spine caps bumped with fraying att the head and heel. Lovely decorative endpapers wit mermaid illustrations in pale green on a cream background. Name of previous owner on the ffe. The phrase-"A San Martine Parros" and stamp of the ship Project Hope also on the ffe. There is light foxing, particularly on pages facing the nine plates and the text and illustrations are generally clean and unmarked. The binding is firm. Includes the nine full color plates by Elenore Abbott who was a student of Howard Pyle at the Drexel Institute in Philadelphia. Plates include-The Griffin carried them over the Red sea, The 12 princesses , Earthmen come up, and She sprang away like a fawn. 308 pp. Seller Inventory # ABE-1694011605552
