From the library of Harvard Sanskrit professor Charles Rockwell Lanman with his ink note at front about the book being "bought from the library of the late Governor Wm. A. Buckingham by Charles A. Burnham and by him presented to me. Charles R. Lanman". This grammar was written by John Holmes, Master of Gresham's School in Norfolk England. He taught classical and modern languages, oratory and drama and authored many textbooks including "The Art of Rhetoric Made Easy" and "A New Grammar of the Latin Tongue". This grammar was first published in 1735 and OCLC locates no copies of this fifth edition. Jonathan Trumbull won election as deputy governor of Connecticut in 1766. With the death of Governor William Pitkin in 1769, Trumbull became governor of the colony. During the Revolutionary War, Trumbull was the only governor to side with the colonists, subsequently making him both the last governor of the Connecticut colony and the first governor of the state of Connecticut. The signed flyleaf and title page have some browning at the top and bottom and some chipping at the edges. The rest of the text is good with some scattered foxing. The rear endpaper is also chipped and browned. The text has been collated and is complete. The binding is in very nice condition with no wear. Seller Inventory # 11944
