About this Item
The Great War by The Right Hon. Winston S. Churchill, C.H., M.P.; fully illustrated with Photographs, Drawings and Maps; George Newnes Limited, Southampton Street, Strand, W.C. 2, London, 1933-4. 3 volumes. Originally issued in 26 fortnightly parts, this is the first bound set created in 1934. An odd item in this set is a written presentation on the first free endpaper in volume 1, where the presenter, a Mr. Johnson claims to have these volumes made to his order and that it was unique. Quite untrue, obviously. Laid in are a number of relevant newspaper clippings from 1940 into the 1960s. This history covers the prelude to the war, the war and carries on into the early 1920 s including coverage of the Irish Troubles. Churchill (1874-1965) was a prolific writer and was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1953. This very comprehensive history of 1,668 pages is in near-fine condition. The bright blue, decorated covers have not faded and have only slight scuff marks. Very well presented and illustrated. This very heavy set may require additional postage. Seller Inventory # 2247a
