About this Item
This book is about dogs used by sportsmen in Britain, and about the field sports in which they take part. It also contains a good deal of reminiscence, and information about the countryside, from ragwort to ferrets and the scent of lilac after rain. It is written with three intentions: 1) To interest those who are fortunate enough to know the pleasures of the countryside at first hand and perhaps add a little to their knowledge of the dogs they love. 2) To give those who know little about hunting dogs and field sports the story, in non-technical language, of their history, their background, and their place in the English way of life. 3) To provide such information as will enable anyone to say, when justified, "that's a good dog". It is illustrated throughout with wood engravings and pen and ink vignettes. The book is tight and square and in very good condition. Blue boards show some minor bumping; the dust jacket is in good condition and is protected by mylar. There are 2 small tears on the front and some chipping on the back. This was never a library book.
