Marvelous illustrations by Florence Kate Upton, (1873 - 1922) English illustrator and cartoonist known most for her series of children's books, the Golliwogg series. Upton first introduced the Golliwogg in her 1895 book 'Adventures of Two Dutch Dolls and a Golliwogg'. Her Golliwogg is a friendly and courageous character, although some later iterations were not. This is the story of the round the world travels of Golliwogg and his "old time friends", the Dutch peg dolls, on their home made bicycles. They travel to Paris and visit the Eiffel Tower; visit Japan and ride in a jinrikisha; travel to Turkey, ride a camel in a desert, and are captured by a tribe of cannibals. Oblong 4to, 62pp, color illustrations. Quarter cloth and pictorial boards, with title in red and black at front board, no title at spine. Boards a bit dusty, part of titlle smudged, inner hinge starting, but holding firm. Seller Inventory # 20421
