Stereotype Edition. 1814 on the title page. You can see the covers in the photos. They have a fair amount of wear, rub-through of the leather around the front top corner, spots of leather loss on the front, creasing and slight tearing on the spine. There's also rub-through at the other corners. The rest of the edges look pretty decent. The book is square and the spine is straight. There's only a short, mild split coming down from the top edge at the gutter between the front cover and spine, so that the front cover is pretty solidly bound. The rear cover is more stressed with a crack that you can see through over the 1st inch or so off the top edge, and also a very slight pulling away over the top half of the gutter. Because the bottom half is more solidly bound, the rear cover does not appear at risk of detaching if handled cautiously. There is some darkish discoloration off the top edge of the end papers and the following five pages, ending after the first or second page of the Preface. There's also a tear off the outer edge of the second blank front end paper and the frontispiece. The tear is under the frontispiece illustration and lettering, does not reach or touch either. In scrolling through the many pages I did not notice any other tears. The there is some not terrible creasing, not a great amount, most of the creases are at the very tips of the corners. I've tried to flatten those out, sure I've missed a few. The paper is pretty strong, handles the straightening out well. The pages are quite clean. Happily, I came upon only a very few light spots. This is NOT a book suffering from foxing which is a pleasant surprise. There are no markings in the book. There is only one small attachment. It's on the front inside cover, a fairly small bookseller label that states 'John Gibson, Publisher & Bookbinder, 20, Frankfort Street, Plymouth.' I didn't see any kind of writing, no names, nothing. The binding of the pages is quite solid. Almost all of them are nicely tight. I found one instance of two consecutive pages in the middle of the book that have cleanly pulled away from their bindings, although both pages are still in place because the bindings are intact over their top third. The outer edge of the bottom two thirds has a little wear (no tears) because it has stuck out a tiny bit. The only other paper issue involves the rear inside cover where a piece of the paper there scuffed off. The color beneath it is pretty much identical. Seller Inventory # 004637
