About this Item
Original blue printed wraps, iv, 17pp including b/w maps + 1 folding sheet, below which is attached a folder complete with 8 Plates (large folding dyeline maps). Near fine. This presents the results of an aerial survey done for the USGS Mission in Jeddah by Geosurvey International Ltd in line with USGS' agreement with the Saudi Ministry. The aim was primarily to acquire data for geologic mapping and mineral exploration, and secondarily to complete aeromagnetic surveying of the Shield. The aerial survey was done during Dec 1981 to Jun 1984 in a Cessna Titan 404, and some areas identified from the air were investigated further on the ground accessed by helicopter during Mar 1984. The report includes an index map showing the area surveyed, and an index map showing the location of each of the 8 plates. The 8 plates, each 1:250,000, map the area of radiometric anomalies in Cretaceous rocks northeast of Wadi ad Dawasir for uranium, thorium and potassium (1-3, each 78x83cm), in Paleozoic Wajid Sandstone southwest of Wadi ad Dawasir for uranium, thorium and potassium (4-6, each 73x106cm), and Simplified geologic maps of the area of radiometric anomalies northeast (7, 80x79cm), and southwest of Wadi ad Dawasir (8, 102x60cm). Some include an inset location map of the study area in relation to Riyadh, Jeddah and Abha, and technical information (contractor, dates flown, aircraft, navigation, tracking camera, terrain clearance, flight line direction, flight line spacing, etc).
