384pp., maroon boards with gilt titles to spine. The contents are in good order with a tight binding, but there is foxing to some of the pages. The covers are in very good condition with a touch of wear and a few small marks; the top of the spine has a c. 1cm closed split and some wear. This is a collection of essays written by John Frederick Denison Maurice (1805-1872) on a number of topics, including: books, newspapers, Christian civilisation, ancient history, Milton and Edmund Burke.
