From Good Reading Secondhand Books, Benalla, VIC, Australia Seller rating 4 out of 5 stars
AbeBooks Seller since 26 October 2000
128 pages. The jacket is chipped head and tail of the spine as well as the edges and suffers from minor loss; the front end paper has been neatly cut out, the fore-edge is foxed. Overall a clean, unmarked and solid copy but obviously second hand. First published in 1940, this is a third impression."This tongue-in-cheek book about Hitler parachuting into England and being captured was published a year before Hitler's number-two man, Rudolf Hess, dropped into Scotland, still the source of considerable mystery as to his real motives. The fact that author of "The Flying Visit", Peter Fleming, was brother to Ian, who would later create James Bond, and that Peter also worked for British Intelligence during the war has led to some interesting speculation. In fact, when Hess landed in Scotland by parachute Peter Fleming was regarded as impossibly lucky or to have written the script for perhaps the most important capture during the war. As Rudolf Hess knew all the details of the proposed Invasion of Britain it became impossible for the Germans to go through with it and forced Hitler's Plan B, the incredibly stupid invasion of Russia. This is an enjoyable book despite it's historic importance." (web review) Peter Fleming was also a fabulous travel writer. Seller Inventory # 020436
