About this Item
Very good in a good-plus original jacket. Fourth entry in the six-book series is copyright 1913, but as the publisher's ads at rear list through "The Boy Allies With the Victorious Fleet (Or, The Fall of the German Navy,") 1919, and "The Boy Allies With Marshal Foch (Or: The Closing Days of The Great World War,") 1919, We conclude this is a 1919 printing, in hard-to-find original jacket. (Jacket duplicates art to front board.) What's slightly odd about this is that it means the series obviously continued to be PRINTED right through the war, though in fact the war pretty much killed OFF this line, which dealt exclusively with civilian aviation (the boys here working to aid the G-Men in capturing evil bootleggers hauling in their hooch from distant and exotic "Canada"), the last title in the series being copyright 1915. As is typical of these juveniles, the technology on display -- even for 1913 -- is about five years out of date. (The boys balance on the fore-edge of the wing, their feet braced on little foot-boards, as in the Wright Flyers of 1906-1908, whereas in reality the enclosed cockpit was standard by 1913.) Reduced from $97. Seller Inventory # 007577
