No stated date but the preface is dated 1894 and this agrees with the appearance of the book. A reliable source tells us it was published in 1895. Davies's First Edition was 1873, whilst that revised and enlarged by Kent was published in 1895 and again in 1898. New and thoroughly revised and enlarged edition. First thus. 68pp., 4 plates, other black and white illustrations within the text and advertisements on the endpapers. This little book is part of the publisher's "Champion Handbooks" series. It was written for those who have not as yet become experienced fisherman, and it aims at nothing more than to be a hand-book to point out the right road, and help those who may be unable to get better help. The book is in two parts - river fishing and sea fishing. The book is bound in cloth covered thin card covers with black titling on the front cover and spine and an advertisement in black on the back cover. The book is in good to very good condition with shelf wear and some soiling on the covers. The corners are curled with some chipping and about 1/4" is missing from both spine ends. A home repair has been carried out on the spine and there is a split down the bottom 2 1/2" of the front spine edge (repaired/strengthened internally with (non matching coloured) document repair tape. The rear cover has a crease across the bottom corner. The contents are secure with foxing on the endpapers and half-title page. There is a stain on the top edge of the pages, up to page 42. It is fairly small at the start of the book but grows to about 1 1/4" further in where it affects the top few lines of text. The top corner of the las page of adverts has been torn away and there is a previous owner's book label on the front fixed endpaper. There is no inscription. The book is in an easily removed clear plastic protective cover. Seller Inventory # Fishing076
