About this Item
The Beautiful binding is the finest work by Riviere and Son. Fine red leather with five raised bands and decorative gilt to the back, gilt rules on the boards. Marbled endpapers front and back in each volume. Jean de La Fontaine was a French poet and fabulist, who lived and worked during the XVII century. La Fontaine was elected to the French Academy of Sciences in 1684 For special contributions to French literature. Though written over 300 years ago, modern readers will find La Fontaine s tales to be both sexually charged and wickedly funny. La Fontaine's Tales may surprise readers who know him only from his work on fables for children. These two volumes are illustrated with beautiful and suggestive engravings throughout (all present).
