About this Item
Pair of watercolours, each 12 x 7 inches, framed and glazed in conservation materials, overall size 16.5 x 11.5 inches. A pair of unsigned, charming depictions of the houses in Fish Market and East Street, looking east, down narrow cobbled streets that have since been redeveloped. The streets are festooned with the everyday accoutrements of the fishing trade: nets, pots etc., and the buildings include herring hangs and sail lofts as well as dwellings. These paintings probably date from around the 1920s, and the buildings were demolished in 1935 following a landslip, and most were designated as slums. Seller Inventory # 22498
