Undated privately printed journal of a trip made by Symonds, surveyor to the RN, for the Admiralty in order to report on the Russian & Turkish navies. Octavo (22 x 14cm). 32pp. With a folding frontispiece illustration. Presentation copy to a Captain Hammond R.N. A very scarce item, printed c.1845 presumably for private distribution. Copies located only at the National Maritime Museum, Harvard, and one in a bound collection of pamphlets on the Crimean War at The V & A. An excellent copy in red cloth stamped in blind & gilt. Annotated in pencil, presumably by Hammond. With a loose contemporary newspaper clipping giving details of the Russian fleet in 1852-53. VG. [DNB XIX, 278]. Seller Inventory # 11318
