About this Item
Large thick octavo, natural colored tawed blindstamped pigskin over wooden boards with metal clasp. All edges stained red. 1096pp. plus "Register". Full page frontispiece engraving of the author. Brastberger was a noteworthy German Lutheran preacher in the 18th century. This volume in the original 17th c. style elaborately decorated pigskin in blindstamp is very tight, sound and internally clean. Only one clasp of two still in place and functional with moderate rubbing to board edges and darkening and stains to boards. There is a "copperplate" holographic presentation inscription on the verso of one preliminary page dated 1837 and a welter of prior owner names on front pastedown and endpapers. Frontispiece portrait is excellent and bright and the interior pages are all clean, bright and unmarked. An attractive fairly early edition of this eighteenth century standard work of Protestant pedagogy. Seller Inventory # 04539
