An original wood engraving: J,K,L With Three Figures, in black and blue ink. One of a group of twelve wood-engravings undertaken by Ravilious as a commission for The Monotype Corporation Calendar 1933. Ten of the engravings comprise designs combining letters of the alphabet with figures engaged in various sporting activities, another is of dancing figures with holly and mistletoe, and one is of acrobats incorporating the date 1933. The Alphabet wood engravings were printed in 1933 from the blocks, with the permission of Eric Ravilious and The Monotype Corporation, for the preliminary supplement to the privately published Print Users Year Book 1934.
