Author's presentation copy with note on half title page: 'Inscribed very specially for Jeanne who I like very much - Even when she replies with the strangest answers! Harry San Francisco 22nd June, 1943.' Third Edition hardcover in illustrated paper covered boards showing sharp tips and bumped spine ends. Shallow wrinkle on foot of spine/gutter area of both boards from a hard knock. 181 pp text is crisp, tight and unmarked save for a myriad of wonderful line drawings by Paul Brown. Not Exlib, no soil, tears or smells. Original color illustrated dust wrapper matches the art on the boards. It shows a close up of a chap jumping a bay horse over a sizeable post/rail vertical but the jacket has issues. A chip at head of frt gutter/spine area took the upper corner of the letter E from the book title, there are other small losses at lower frt panel fore edge, lower frt gutter and lower fore-edge of frt panel. Lastly, there are small areas of color flaking off the outer layer of paper along portions of the DJ backstrip but it still displays alright on the shelf in its new mylar sleeve. A book of knowledge riders and sportsmen alike will find of interest. This is a great book to keep in the truck for long drives to horse shows, you can quiz one another on the way. Also useful for riding instructors, I kept one in my office for rained out lesson days.
