Early reprint. Green cloth with gilt lettering on spine and front cover. Spine cloth a little dulled. Light shelf rubbing to extremities. Crease down spine. Bookshop label inside back cover. The occasionally romanticized autobiography of John Sergeant Wise, who served in the Confederate Army and later became a lawyer and politician. Our copy previously owned by Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Charles V. (Valdo) Bardeen, whose widow, upon his death, gifted it to J. B. Winslow, Chief Justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court (1891-1920). Inscribed by Winslow inside front cover, with his signature on label affixed to front pastedown. A second signature by Winslow on front flyleaf. Gift inscription from Bardeen's widow on card affixed to front flyleaf. Winslow was the author of "The Story of a Great Court" (1912), about the history of the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Seller Inventory # 218603
