Within the poems of the spiritual leader and social activist Vimala Thakar, though in the forward , written by herself in 1962, she maintains that she is not a poet and that the words do not have poetic value. She does claim however 'that these words are living. They are born of a direct union with life. Naturally they have a direct relevance to life. They have relevance to life as it is. They have no relevance, whatsoever, to any theory about life. Those who are earnestly interested in life may find in this book a lovable companion.'
