Vol. I, xiv + 451 pp.; Vol. II, viii + 460 pp. Bound in original brown cloth with decorated blind stamped borders, enclosing gilt oval of Faculty of Procurators in Glasgow; spine rebacked in brown buckram with gilt titles and new endpapers. Rough cut fore edges. A little wear to extremities, including corners and occasional scattered foxing, including preliminaries; otherwise a very good set. Illustrated by 14 engraved plates, including 2 portrait frontispieces (including Gillray) and by 301 wood engravings in text by F. W. Fairholt. A well illustrated social history of England during the Hanoverian era of 1714-1820 by the antiquary and historian, Thomas Wright (1810-77). It includes caricature plates, after Hogarth, Gillray, etc. and three hundred humorous wood engravings in the text by Frederick William Fairholt (1814-66), author and wood engraver; also engraver of the plates in the book other than the portraits.
