About this Item
Single leaf broadside. Central horizontal fold, creased, chipping to edges, several paper repairs to verso. A rare survival of a patriotic address against the threatened invasion of Britain by Napoleon, written from the perspective of a deceased Shoreditch shopkeeper once honoured by Henry VIII for his military valour as a part of the 'Finsbury Archers'. The jingoistic phantom calls for the nation to 'take up your arms' in defiance of 'these Savages of Europe, these modern Barbarians' who desire to 'cross the channel, which I hope and trust, will prove the Red Sea to them'. COPAC records a single copy (NLS); OCLC adds five further copies (California, DePaul, Harvard, Massachusetts, and McGill). Size: Dimensions 260 x 430 mm. Seller Inventory # AQ17456
