VERY RARE gilded & embossed illustrated hardcover book. "Drums" By James Boyd. Illustrated by N. C. Wyeth. This book was published by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, London, 1928. Thick & heavy item. PLEASE NOTE: As this book is heavy (over 1.3 Kg with packaging), if you are buying this from outside the U.K. please expect additional shipping costs. 4to, 23.9 cm x 18.6 cm x 4.1 cm, Black cloth-covered boards, Gilt embossed lettering on spine, Colour vignette affixed to front cover, Some unevenly cut pages, Some pages have rough-cut vertical edge, No dust-jacket. 409 pages. Weight: 1.058 Kg (1058 Grams). CONTENTS ARE ALMOST LIKE NEW!!! Spine is discoloured & marked but sturdy, bumped & scuffed either end, slightly frayed at head, gilt bright, binding tight! Cover is discoloured, slightly marked mostly on back, vignette is scuffed & scratched but still quite nice & very colourful, edge wear. Corners are bumped & scuffed. Pastedowns & end papers slightly marked. Small area of damage to front pdown & e.p. Ink annotation on front e.p. Slight damage top & bottom edges of last pdown & e.p. Some pages have tiny edge bumps/nicks, and/or corner folds/creases. Four sets of 2 pages still attached together at vertical edge: 389 to 392, 393 to 396, 405 to 408, and the last 2 pages. Light age tanning & occasional foxing throughout. VERY RARE ITEM, EXCELLENT CONDITION INSIDE!!! Full title: "Drums - The Little River Country". A great story of adventure and the American Revolution, and the life of a North Carolina boy named John Fraser who decides to join in the fight & struggle for freedom. With 14 colour pictures on plates & numerous black pen drawings among text by renowned Illustrator Newell Convers Wyeth. The story is divided in 4 'books': Book I: 19 untitled chapters.
