An apparently unrecorded mid-nineteenth-century broadside advertising wine coolers 'so contrived that the Cold is chiefly applied to the upper part of the bottle, thereby ensuring the greatest effect of the frigorific mixture with the least expenditure of material, and at the smallest cost'. The coolers, and associated 'ice powders', could be had at the Edinburgh premises of pharmaceutical chemist Henry Craven Baildon (d. 1881), father of poet Henry Bellyse Baildon (1849-1907), today predominantly remembered for his lifelong friendship with Robert Louis Stevenson (1850- 1894).
