Green buckram with red title block and gilt lettering. Small scuffed area to lower front edge of front board. Bump to head and heel of spine. Text is clean and bright, no marks. DJ shows minor edgewear and tiny chips head and heel. This book club edition was apparently printed on the first edition block, as it states first editon, compete with Scriber's 'A' on copyright page. Wonderful cover art by Walter Kumme. "This is the moving and symapthetic story of a yound war-widow who encounters a man so like her dead husband that she can transfer her affections to him in a kind of "fixation" that involves the principal characters of the novel in many arresting emotional situations and problems.
