It attacks the Democratic Party which, abetted by former President Franklin Pierce, has consistently sought to undermine the Union cause. New Hampshire's devotion to the Union is demonstrated by its sons' enthusiastic enlistments in the Army. Rousing speeches, including one by Andrew Johnson, the brave Tennessee Unionist, rally Republicans. Letters from the soldiers of the 12th and 13th New Hampshire regiments attest to their devotion to the Union.
