About this Item
A lovely copy of Mrs. Gaskell's most famous novel, in remarkably good condition for its age. No Dust Jacket (as issued?). Cover: Dark Green cloth covered boards with gilt lettering and design of flowers to front and spine; gilding very bright and clean especially to the front ( slight wearing to spine) and generally very good for a book of its age (120 years plus); some rubbing to all edges and corners commensurate with age; 6cm (approx) split to front fore edge of spine. Internally: generally very clean and tightly bound; both paper hinges cracked but still sound; dark green paste downs and front free end papers; owner's signature in neat, elegant hand, dated 1893 to verso front free end paper; all edges gilded, small mark to top edge gilding; some foxing throughout; possible small insect erosion in past to top of rear free end paper and 3 pages into rear of book (see photos); otherwise in very good condition. Black and white line drawings throughout by Hugh Thomson, frontispiece (of Miss Matty) tissue protected. xxx, 298 pp. Seller Inventory # 000312
