The spine of each volume is lettered and decorated with gilt, top edges gilt. Illustrated by Maurice Leloir. Each volume illustrated with a frontispiece and eleven lithograph plates, with several in-text wood engravings. Preface by Jules Claretie. A beautiful set of Rousseau's life story, his autobiography detailing his birth and upbringing (including his failed apprenticeship to an engraver), his many affairs with women, his patronage and friendship with the French nobility, his flight to Switzerland and final refuge in England.
