(thick); half-title, frontispiece (Landing of Julius Caesar), title-page printed in red and black, with wood engraving of Clio Instructing the British Lion in History. [i]-xviii, [1]-320 pp.; [1]-304 pp. Illustrated with 20 steel-engraved, colored plates., and in-text wood engravings. Dark green cloth with elaborate gilt designs and titling on the spine, including three John Leech figures, and the Leech figure of Clio and the British Lion, gilt on the front cover, and blind-stamped borders around the covers; all edges gilt. Spine ends, rear hinge, and cover corners show some wear, various degrees of light brown-spotting (foxing) is present on the end-papers, some prelims, some of the page margins, and on the plates, esp. on the blank reverses of some plates.
