About this Item
A 17 1/2" x 10 1/2" broadside with a woodcut of a watchman walking between numbers 24 and 26 thus depicting Christmas. A poem at base titled On the Return of Christmas Day, 1850. A Watchman's Calendar for 1851 at base. Extensive elaborate decorative border decoration with vignettes of American eagles, dogs and zebra. Poems similar to carriers' addresses were sometimes used by members of other groups accustomed to an annual tip--watchmen, scavengers, lamplighters and letter-carriers. They were distributed at Christmas or New Year's Day. Extensive trimming of margins with minor impact to printed areas. Seller Inventory # 28001445
