About this Item
Almanacs were mostly discarded once the issue for a new year had been received, at least that is what happened to the great majority. That fact, coupled with the often fragile nature of the paper used for these interesting, and often quaint, ephemeral books, insured that only a few of each issue survived in decent, intact condition. By the nineteenth century, much more information was being included in almanacs besides calendars and meteorological data. The Church Almanac was issued by the Protestant Episcopal Tract Society, which was established in 1810. The printer, John W. Amerman was located at 60 William Street, N.Y. This old Almanac contains a veritable trove of valuable statistical matter related to the Church. Many clerical individuals are accounted for and named. This is an invaluable source of information for the Protestant Episcopal Church those many, many years ago. ************************************ THE CHURCH ALMANAC FOR THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 1857. / The Protestant Episcopal Tract Society. / Church Depository, No. 55 East Thirteenth Street, New York. / Printed in 1856 by John W.
