About this Item
A two-volume work by Matsuoka Masanori, engraved by Otsuka Tetsugoro and published by Tokyo Shorin in 1882, containing instructions on painting and writing Chinese classics. Most of the images are printed in black, white, and grey; one image in Volume 1 containes some blue. The volumes are bound in paper with the traditional Japanese four-hole stab binding. All pages are comprised of folded sheets of paper such that the folded edge is at the volume's fore edge, rather than tucked into the binding; this eliminates any bleed-through of text or image. -- Good to very good. Some bumping, tears, and marking to covers, along with some loss of material, particularly evident at edges and corners. The text block is clean, with light age toning and a small instance of insect damage to the first volume, impacting the cover and the first eleven pages. Minor insect damage also affects the upper left corner of several pages in the first volume, but this does not impact the images or the text. Shelve Allan's Office -- Speak with Allan. 1330495.
