Both brown cloth-covered boards are blind tooled with the book's title and a decorative ecclesiastical style pattern. The main condition-related issue is that the spine covering has become detached from the lower outer hinge; revealing the backing material. It is still attached to the upper one, although the join is a bit fragile. Furthermore, in taking photos for listing this publication, the book block has separated at pages 192/193. See photo and please note that the selling price has been consequently reduced. Internally, the pages are generally mildly tanned with occasional spotting. The endpapers are coloured a lemon yellow. The last page and rear endpaper have a lot of writing in ink - which is written in a very elegant hand (photo). The rear pastedown has a pasted-in press cutting of a book review about the nature of charity and poverty in London; in the context of the Temperance Movement. pp. xiv. 474. 110 x 180 mm.
