Nice condition antique copy of "The Laws of Piquet Adopted by the Portland and Turf Clubs with a Treatise on the Game" by 'Cavendish.' 1913; Thos. de La Rue & Co.; London. The book is illustrated with card hands in color. Decorative cloth binding with gilt lettering and decorations on the front cover and spine, decorative end papers, and gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. The contents are as follows: Preface; The Laws of Piquet; Laws of Piquet au Cent; Cases and Decisions; Treatise on Piquet; Description of the Game; Conduct of the Game; Discarding; Calling; Playing the Cards; Odds at Piquet. Piquet is an early 16th-century card game that became France's national game. Condition: Clean front cover and spine; there are a few tiny, light stains on the back cover. Sharp cover corners. Bright gilt page edges on all sides of the text block. Tight binding with no cracks and no loose pages. Both covers are firmly attached. Nice interior - the pages are clean with only a small smudge at the top of page 5, and a tiny stain at the outer edge of pages 110 and 111. Overall the book is in Very Good condition.
