pp 278 Second Edition, illustrated with plans and photographs by the author. Inscribed by Harry Stopes-Roe to his wife Mary "To my sweetest love For her birthday And in memory of our second honeymoon 7 Oct 1954". Very good in pale blue cloth, lightly stained, the end papers are browned otherwise the pages are crisp and clean in a firm binding. This book comes from the collection of the scientist and pioneer birth-control campaigner Marie Stopes (1880-1958) which was inherited by her son the philosopher Harry Stopes-Roe (1924-2014) and sold following the death of his widow Mary Stopes-Roe in May of this year. Mary was herself an academic and author, the daughter of the engineer and inventor of the bouncing bomb, Sir Barnes Wallis.
