Small folio, (13 x 8 ins), iv+524pp., foxing to first & last few pages, half polished calf, gilt, marbled boards, spine gilt ruled with red leather label lettered 'Head's Despatches from Canada', head of spine chipped with small loss to head, a little worn & rubbed otherwise very good & sound. Francis Bond Head (1793-1875), soldier, author and colonial administrator. In December 1835 was named to succeed Sir John Colborne as Lieutenant Governor of Upper Canada. He held this post through the Rebellion of 1837. His behaviour in Upper Canada was erratic & eccentric and he never again held a government post after returning home in 1837.
