About this Item
Red cloth with gilt lettering and embossed border. Light bump to head and heel of spine, slight rub to tips of corners. Text is clean and bright, no marks save ghost of inserted newspaper clipping to rear endpaper and pastedown. Battered DJ has done its job well, but shows chips and tears head and heel, a tear to the center of spine which has been repaired on reverse, several small tears along the front gutter, closed tear on rear cover, rubbing to all edges. Still quite appealing with lovely cover art. "Caleb Peaslee is a pleasure to know. He is a keen old Maine farmer and there is always relish in his remarks. The charm of this story is its understanding portrayal of those quaint and rugged types now met far less frequently than in earlier years. The story centers largely around "the old Manset place" and its ownership, with Caleb Peaslee, the friend of everybody, playing a role of importance in the romance that threads its way through the novel."
