Findlay in 1950s as a 'duplicate copy', pencil note verso same giving author and author's dates, otherwise internally clean, tight and unmarked, Orange blind-stamped cloth covers clean and mostly unworn but spine ends a little rubbed and top front joint has small (c. 1 cm) chip. Ten essays on an odd variety of topics from Whateley on Bacon and recent philosophy to Edgar Allen Poe, George Stephenson and the railway, the 'organ question' (whether or not it has a place in the Presbyterian church) and 'Life at the Water Cure'. The author was a very highly regarded Scottish divine, prolific writer and noted raconteur.
