Extremities worn, some foxing largely confined to fly leaves, repaired tear on contents page and one instance of removed sellotape from margins; otherwise a very good copy. Signature on second free endpaper. A best selling account of near eastern travel. Part I is largely concerned with Egypt and Part II with Palestine, Lebanon, and Syria, ending with Turkey and Greece. It includes six appendices, including Hints to Travellers in the East. Eliot Warburton (1810-52) was an Irish traveller and novelist, lost on his way to explore the isthmus of Darien, when his ship, the RMS Amazon, caught fire and sank in the Bay of Biscay.
