About this Item
McNichols, Charles L.: CRAZY WEATHER. New York: Macmillan, 1944. 1944 edition but does not state "First." Very Good cloth in lightly edgeworn dust jacket. The author was raised on eleven Indian reservations in Arizona, Indian Territory, South Dakota, Montana, Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Minnesota because his father was a Special Agent of the Interior. His first job was riding horses in silent film westerns, since the stars usually didn't know how. He eventually worked for Cecil B. De Mille as a researcher then Pathe studios as a screenwriter. In 1929 he became bedridden and started writing short tales and articles for magazines, having a long apprenticeship with the pen before tackling this, his first novel. It remains a minor classic that opens along the Colorado River, about the friendship between a white lad and an Indian of the Fort Mojave Reservation, who joined forces to make themselves feared from the Rio Grande to the Pacific, who stood shoulder to shoulder and fought with clubs against Apache arrows. A moving coming of age story with the whole of the old west as backdrop. Seller Inventory # 1468
