12mo. 6.5 x 4.25 inches. xvi + [2] pp. advertisements. In rebacked maroon buckram spine, retaining original leather label, gilt, over printed paper covered pictorial boards. All edges gilt. Boards darkened and worn at corners, hinges starting to crack and some scattered foxing; otherwise a very good copy. Early inscription on front pastedown and bookplate of Folkestone owner on first free endpaper. Illustrated by 49 plates, including frontispiece and by text vignettes. Decorated by title page vignette. First issue of The Comic Annual (published 1830-42) of the poet and humorist, Thomas Hood (1790-1845), written by the author and others and including some illustrations by Cruickshank. It contains the material which was in preparation for the third series of his Whims and Oddities (First and Second Series, 1826 and 27).
