About this Item
54pp, no illustrations. Designed by Jonathan Williams. In a protective clear acetate dustwrapper. Published by Jonathan Williams in 1956 in Stuttgart as Jargon 9, this is the second and final installment of the first full publication of noted American literary figure Charles Olson's "Maximus Poems". Poems 1-10 were published in a similarly formatted volume by Williams in 1953; with both printed by hand letterpress in black ink with red headings by Dr. Cantz'sche Druckerei. An internally most handsome example of the second volume only whose jacket shows some minor wear, a few nicks, and a short closed tear to the extremities along with a clean partial separation along the rear foredge panel where it wraps around the stiff cardboard wrapper. While not indicated in any way, this was acquired directly from the library of Charles Olson's Black Mountain colleague and longtime close friend, artist and educator Emerson Woelffer.
