About this Item
Georges Carpentier (1894-1975) was born near Lens in the Pas-de-Calais region of France. He fought mainly as a light heavyweight in a career lasting from 1908 to 1926 and by the age of 15 was Champion of France. Nicknamed the "Orchid Man," he stood 5 ft 11½ inches and his fighting weight ranged from 125 to 175lb. Carpentier was known for his speed, his excellent boxing skills and his extremely hard punch. Translated from French by Edward Fitzgerald. 8vo. 208pp. Frontispiece, 14 plates. Dust-wrapper, lightly rubbed to edges with some short closed tears. Good condition. Seller Inventory # 89182
