About this Item
Buddhist Art Architecture, Part I (I don't believe a Part II was ever published-- none are for sale anywhere). So this is a tricky one. I tried but couldn't identify the second language in this book. The first is English. It's probably Thai, also called Siamese. The publishers name is in this language so I can'y tell you who published it. It likely was published in Bangkok (there is a photograph of a monastery in Bangkok on the last page). It also may be a First, and it may have been published in 1952, though that information isn't actually in the book. Check out the photos and see what you think. It 's a very rare book, only one other is currently for sale on the Internet. This book is in very good shape. The covers have only minor wear. There are a couple of small spots on the rear cover. There's a small loss at the top edge of the spine. There are a couple of very thin superficial tears on the front side of the spine. They have NO bearing on the solidity of the binding. This book is very soundly bound with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. There is some creasing and light wear at the corners, no significant rub-through. The interior of the book looks terrific. The pages are very clean. In fact I saw only one page, the last, with any soiling, and it has only two insignificant small spots. The pages have a semi-glossy feel. There is no foxing. There are no markings. No attachments of any kind. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. There is a mild and superficial impression that can be seen off the bottom edge of a few early pages (you may be able to see in the photo of the title page). There's also a vague semi-crease at the top corners of some of the pages, the kind of thing you see you when there's been a bump to one of the cover corners. There are no turned- down corners or placeholder creases. I purchased this book some years ago from Vallin Galleries in Wilton, Connecticut. It closed after the passing of its owner, Peter Rosenberg, who was a Chinese and Asian Art and Antiques Specialist. Seller Inventory # 000122
