About this Item
This special limited edition copy of Brooklyn Pops Up is #11 of 150. Like all of the first 50 numbered copies, this one is signed by all 12 contributing artists on the back cover. As a bonus, Robert Sabuda also signed his double-page contribution, Brooklyn Museum of Art & Brooklyn Children's Museum. The movable on the front cover is by Sendak who puts himself into the work as the mechanical surprise. A booklet that annotates the history and art of the movable book as a genre is folded into the verso of the front cover. With text by Pamela Thomas and design by Chani Yammer, and published by the Brooklyn Public Library, the book contains 17 pages of full-color pop-ups, fold-outs, and unique paper engineering in addition to Sendak's front cover. The 10 x 8 x 1.5-inch book is encased in a matching royal blue cloth-covered slipcase with royal blue ribbon intact. This exceptional and complex compilation of moveables and pop-ups is one of the most delightful pop-up works I've seen in four decades of collecting. The pop-ups and mechanicals illustrate Brooklyn Children, Brooklyn Brownstones, Grand Army Plaza & Brooklyn Public Library, Brooklyn Museum of Art & Brooklyn Chidren's Museum, Brooklyn Botanic Garden, Prospect Park & the Carousel, Brooklyn Bridge, Flavors of Brooklyn, and Coney Island. Remembering that this book was published in 2001. to my eye, it's better than any space odyssey ever could be!. Seller Inventory # 091724
