Square oversized volume in illustrated stiff paper wrappers over cloth spine. 44 pp. Solidly very good. A "platinum age" comic collection of "Bringing Up Father" newspaper comics of the era as well as twenty-six of these semi-annual book form volumes.A real knee-slapper in its day, it featured Jiggs and Maggie (Jiggs, an immigrant Irishman who won The Irish Sweepstakes, always formally attired in spats and top hat). The strip ran for 87 years beginning in 1913, in later year sometimes under the title "Jiggs and Maggie". The strip was adapted in silent-era two-reelers and most notably a series of five full lenght Monogram Pictures movies (1946-1950) that featured Joe Yule (the father of Mickey Rooney) as Jiggs.
