[23-100] The comic strip Bringing Up Father was introduced by the cartoonist George McManus in 1913. The strip featured a Jiggs, an Irish-Catholic immigrant, who was a bricklayer that won a million dollar sweepstakes. Suddenly rich, his social status conscious wife, Maggie, constantly attempts to raise Jiggs up from his original lower income social standing to higher middle-class standards. Jiggs would rather hang out with his old crowd than join his wife in her zeal to become high society as a result of their new-found wealth. Jiggs and Maggie?s lovely daughter, Nora, is also a main character in the strip that ran for over 80 years. The inside front cover advertises a new ?Bringing Up Father? game ?for either children or grown-ups?. The inside back cover advertises a larger-sized Bringing Up Father book in color. Both were available by sending in money!. Seller Inventory # 000533
