A New Edition with an Introduction and Notes by Michael Banim. 8vo. pp568. Three quater bound With raised bands on spine., and marbled boards. Wear on covers, otherwise very good. John Banim was born in Kilkenny, 3rd April 1798. He was an Irish novelis, Short story writer, dramatist, poet and essayist. t He trained in miniatue painting and painted portraits and contributed articles to an local paper, the Leinster Gazette, of which he became editor. In 1820 he went to Dublin to continue his literary career. He worked with his brother Michael on future plans of novels and stories, especially a series of tales illustrative of Irish life, which should be for Ireland what the Waverley Novels shoud be for Scotland. He went to London with his wife writing for magazines and for the stage. His work The Boyne Water is a story of Protestant/ Catholic relations during the Williamite War. He eventually came back to live in Dublin and then Kilkenny where he died. Scarce. Seller Inventory # 17241
