The Binding is full orange cloth, colors uniform but showing some light soiling, with bright black title and author to the front board, black title, etc., to a somewhat faded spine, unmarked white endpapers, and all corners square, lower front corner mildly bumped. Originally published in Spanish as Sangre y arena in 1908, this novel is nominally about a matador in a love triangle, but as Goldberg says in the Introduction, "Not the sacrificial bulls, but the howling, bloodthirsty assembly is the genuine beast."
